Alternatives to Surgery: A Low Fat Diet

This is Part 1 of our ongoing series – Alternatives to Surgery.

A great solution to overcoming weight gain and obesity is surgery, but there are also easier methods one can try first, before proceeding with surgery.  One of which is maintaining a low fat diet.  Basically, a low fat diet consists of reducing the percentage of fat one intakes while eating.  By reducing the amount of fat in one’s diet,, calorie consumption generally decreases as well.  There are couple well known diets of this type.  They are the NCEP Step I and II.  Recently, researchers have used a meta-analysis to prove this to be true.  The results of 16 trials in a 2-12 month period showed that low fat diets can help an average adult human lose weight of around 3.2 kg or around 7 pounds, just by focusing on low fat foods!  Wow!

For more information about whether or not a low fat diet is right for you, I would recommend contacting a physician or a dietitian who specializes in such dietary methods.
